MUSIC SCHOOL

Students at the MUSIC SCHOOL BASIC LEVEL have approximately 10 years to complete their studies. There is an admission test to the basic level. The tuition consists of solo studies in the student’s main instrument (45-75 min/week), general studies and ensemble playing. General studies and theory are studied in groups, starting the first year. The general studies courses are The Basics of Music 1-4. Ensemble playing is practised in choirs, orchestras and chamber music groups. The basic level fee is 265 € per term.

The MUSIC SCHOOL LEVEL is normally completed in four years. One can apply to this level after having completed the basic level studies. The students at the music school level have instrumental solo lessons, general studies and ensemble playing. The general studies include The Basics of Music 5-7. Ensemble playing is practised in choirs, orchestras and chamber music groups. The fee is 265 € per term.

Tampere Conservatoire can also offer a few places for pedagogical students who will be teached by the professional students of The School of Music of Pirkanmaa Polytechnic, University of Applied Sciences. The pedagogical students will be chosen in the autumn from those who have entered the admission.

ADMISSION TEST

The admission test to the basic and music school levels includes a musicality test and an optional audition.

All the 9-years-old applicants (birthday latest at the admission test day) majoring in piano, violin or viola, have to play an optional classical piece of music.

All the applicants majoring in singing have to perform two optional songs of different classical music styles (not pop, rock or jazz) or Finnish folk songs. They will also be posted a song to be learned before the admission test.

All the applicants (except singers) perform one of the following songs:

A DEMANDING HOBBY

It takes commitment and genuine enthusiasm to study music or dance at the basic and music school levels. Significant progress won't be made simply by participating in lessons, but a good deal of personal commitment and hard work is required. By putting one's time and energy into studying one can enjoy the pleasures of music and learning.

NOTE!
For the information of applicants residing outside the city of Tampere (Excluding music kindergarten and primary dance tuition): If the applicant is not a legal resident of Tampere on August 1st 2009, in order for him/her to be admitted, the annual cost per student (1000 €) must be covered either by the applicant personally or by his/her municipality of residence by reserving a place in the student quota.
